Minister Phil Hogan promises draft climate Bill in 2012

Minister for the Environment, Phil Hogan, has promised to produce a draft climate Bill in 2012.

Under close questioning from members of the Oireachtas environment committee he said it was his “objective” to send the committee a Bill in 2012. The committee hailed this commitment in a press release and it was reported in the Irish Times.

Minister Hogan promised the committee to come back to them with a detailed “roadmap” to legislation early in the New Year.

Welcoming the announcement, Sr Catherine Brennan, chairperson of Eco-Congregation Ireland, said, “We are heartened by the news of the Minister for the Environment’s commitment to provide a road map for the introduction of climate change legislation and welcome his pledge to introduce the Heads of the Climate Change Bill by the end of 2012.”
