Beechwood Parish in Ranelagh recently joined a wider network of congregations working for climate justice through Eco‑Congregation Ireland. During Advent, they were honoured to welcome the Climate Justice Candle . Its presence invited the community to reflect on the people and places most affected by climate change – those whose lives are already shaped by rising seas, failed harvests and extreme weather, despite contributing least to the crisis.
As they prepared for Christmas, the candle’s presence took on an even deeper meaning. Advent invites us to look toward the coming of Christ, the light who enters a troubled world to bring hope, healing, and renewal. In that spirit, the Climate Justice Candle reminded all that caring for creation is part of welcoming that light – standing with those who suffer most, nurturing the earth entrusted to us, and allowing Christ’s hope to shine through our actions.
Pictured with the Candle are members of Choir, along with members of the Garden Group, who have transformed the church grounds into a welcoming space for nature.
