The ECI Climate Justice Candle was present during Harvest Thanksgiving services in Hillsborough Presbyterian Church on Sunday 19th October.
At morning worship under the title ‘God’s World: Our Responsibility?’ they considered how creation is God’s good gift and the promised new creation is God’s glorious goal. In response we are to live with humility, simplicity, generosity and doxology as those entrusted with faithful partnership with God.
In the evening service their theme was ‘Calendar of Care’ taken from a line in John Arlott’s hymn ‘God, whose farm is all creation.’ They considered the various aspects of care as part of our relationship to God as Creator, Provider and Sustainer – caregiver, caretaker, careworn, carefree, careless and careful – a rich tapestry of many strands.
