Paddy O’Byrne sent us this report:
The Care for Creation Group in St. Cronan’s Catholic Parish, Swords, Co. Dublin recently organised a Green Awareness Event which took place our parish centre on Palm Sunday. Information was available on various actions that we can take in our own household to help nature and do our own bit to help in caring for God’s creation.
The late Pope Francis, in his encyclical Laudato Si’ tells us that the Cry of the Earth and the Cry of the Poor are not two separate crises but are two sides of the one crisis. We are aware that the climate crisis is having a disproportionate impact on the most vulnerable populations in the Global South. What can I do? Retrofitting your home is one of the most effective ways to cut household energy bills and reduce carbon emissions. The Irish government has allocated €558 million in 2026 for such upgrades including a new windows and doors grant for eligible houses. Those who attended the event were provided with information on energy-saving measures in the home and available grants for energy-saving home improvements.

We were very pleased with the fantastic turnout, and a lot of good discussion points were covered on all thing’s energy saving, reducing waste at home and helping biodiversity.
