The theme of this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight is ‘
Show Off’!
Last year saw thousands of people across Ireland taking part in the ‘Big Swap’. This was a loud and proud message that the people of Ireland want a fair deal for the producers behind the products they buy.
This year Fairtrade Mark Ireland wants to take the story further and explain why. By showing off about Fairtrade, you’ll be explaining how important Fairtrade is to producers, the benefits of receiving a Fairtrade premium for their local communities and securing a more stable future.
Fairtrade is transforming the lives of millions of farming families in developing countries and this is down to the passionate commitment of Fairtrade supporters, stockists and companies around the world. Show off! And, in doing so, encourage others to follow in your footsteps.
For two whole weeks we want the nation to get loud and proud about Fairtrade by asking everyone to ‘Show off your label’. People love showing off about Fairtrade – tell the world about your cake made extra special by using Fairtrade sugar and spice, your most tempting bottle of wine, your comfiest pants. We want to load the FAIRTRADE Mark with meaning, telling them the tangible difference Fairtrade makes to producers.
There’ll be a much needed focus on cotton. Cotton can carry our Fairtrade message far beyond a slogan on a t-shirt. Cotton’s link to the fashion industry, and its place in our lifestyles, means that the potential impact of our cotton focus goes well beyond the category itself.
The sky’s the limit when it comes to ways of showing off about Fairtrade!
Whether you decorate your place of study with an inflatable Fairtrade banana or giant mug, hold a public event or start stocking and selling new Fairtrade products, you’ll be expressing your passion for Fairtrade and getting people talking.
