Earth Hour ~ 19th March

Earth Hour picEarth Hour is a great opportunity not only to turn off non-essential lights as a symbol of your commitment to the planet, but also to invite members of local churches and your local community to join you in a candle-lit vigil for the earth and all that dwells on it.

Earth Hour aims to encourage an interconnected global community to share the opportunities and challenges of creating a sustainable world. Switching off lights is one small action and it is hoped, of course, that participants will take action beyond the hour.

Rathfarnham Quaker Meeting, 62 Crannagh Road, Dublin 14, will be holding a candle-lit vigil from 8.30-9.30pm on 19th March followed by Fairtrade refreshments. All welcome!

The Church of the Ascension of the Lord, Balally, Dublin 16 is holding a candlelight vigil of poetry, prayer, music and reflection also on 19th March from 8.30 – 9.30pm. All welcome!

Both these events are an opportunity to join with the millions of people all over the world who will turn lights off for Earth Hour to recognise our global responsibility for the climate change that is already devastating lives and threatening the future of our planet.

Some churches and cathedrals have committed to ringing their bells at the start of Earth Hour in order to act as a Clarion Call to people to take action for the environment. If you would like to participate in this initiative, which has the backing of well-known environmentalist and TV presenter Duncan Stewart, please email Sinéad at [email protected] with “Clarion Call” in the subject line, or go to the Clarion Call website at http://sfinegan.wix.com/clarioncall.
